Assistant Professor: Annual Minimum Salary-$79,200-Annual Maximum Salary-$126,700
Associate Professor: Annual Minimum Salary-$95,100-Annual Maximum Salary-$152,200
Professor: Annual Minimum Salary-$117,700-Annual Maximum Salary-$211,900

Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) was founded as a 501(c) (3) non-profit medical institution in 2005 aimed at increasing access to health care in medically underserved areas of the Pacific Northwest.

The University currently offers the degrees of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Doctor of Physical Therapy, and Master of Arts in Medical Science enrolling over 550 students annually with plans to develop other programs and/or colleges. Interprofessional education partnerships with other universities adds another 100 students to the population. The campus includes 300 employees with academic programming spread over a five state region.

PNWU is located in Yakima, WA, a city of approximately 95,000 located in the south central part of the state near the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains in a major agricultural region replete with wineries, vineyards, and opportunities for outdoor recreation. General Summary:
Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) is recruiting for an open-rank faculty position within the developing School of Occupational Therapy (SOT). Applications are sought from candidates with prior experience in mental health/behavioral health settings, and who have a passion for collaboration with interprofessional colleagues and community partners. This unique position will include community mental health practice. Thus, it is a desirable position for someone wanting to work in an academic setting while maintaining a hands-on clinic presence. The SOT offers formal mentoring for clinicians interested in transitioning to work in the academic setting. The entry-level MSOT program has applied for accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). This is a unique opportunity to be part of a new and innovative SOT that joins the successful College of Osteopathic Medicine and new School of Physical Therapy in preparing practitioners to serve rural and medically underserved populations and to be leaders in transforming occupational therapy practice.

NOTE: The SOT offers a residential Master of Science in Occupational Therapy degree program. As such, this position typically requires the faculty member to be on campus 2-3 days per week.

Essential Job Functions:
Prior experience in mental/behavioral health is required. The SOT provides formal mentoring for candidates without prior academic experience so they may be successful in meeting the essential job functions described below.

Scholarship of Teaching

• Developing course materials in the area of psychosocial processes including writing course syllabi and developing appropriate instructional methods
• Teaching additional courses as assigned and meeting program standards for student and peer evaluations
• Enhancing expertise in teaching content areas through continuing education, practice, and using current literature in teaching content
• Participating in ongoing curriculum and program assessment
• Maintaining licensure in the state of Washington and certification as appropriate

University and Community Service/Clinical Practice

• Advising students
• Assisting in the recruitment and admissions of students
• Attending school/college events including student orientation and commencement exercises
• Performing committee assignments at the school/college and university level
• Performing community service
• May be required to maintain clinical practice as appropriate

Professional Growth, Scholarly, and Creative Activities

• Engaging in scholarly activity
• Supervise and mentor student research
• Maintaining professional development in area of research

University-wide Essential Functions

• Understands accreditation standards and expectations specific to the department and adheres to policies and procedures to meet or exceed such standards
• Conducts self appropriately and consistently in accordance with the philosophy and mission of PNWU
• Other duties as assigned (perform and report on any other reassigned duties for the program)

Requirements
Education:
• Required:
– Be licensed or eligible for licensure as an occupational therapist in the state of Washington
– Have earned a minimum of an occupational therapy master’s degree. All degrees must have been awarded by an institution that is accredited by a regional accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE)
– A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience
– Record of scholarly productivity commensurate with rank sought
– Record of institutional, community, and/or professional service commensurate with rank sought
– Documented expertise in area of assigned teaching as well as delivery method

• Preferred:
– Additional professional qualifications (e.g., other specialty certification, or additional degree)

Experience:
• Prior experience in working with rural and underserved populations preferred; prior experience in interprofessional education or practice preferred; Excellent interpersonal, communications, and presentation skills

Strong organization, interpersonal, and planning skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work in a team and flexibility to work with others in a variety of circumstances; ability to problem solve by analyzing issues and creating action plans; ability to manage projects and people and prioritize and self-direct workflow; ability to work with and manage different computer programs and databases; ability to schedule activities and/or meetings; and ability to use new technologies.
