University Libraries welcomes applications for an Archivist. The Archivist for Architectural and Design Records at Ball State University Libraries (https://www.bsu.edu/academics/libraries) will collaborate with a dynamic community of engaged librarians, archivists, faculty, students, and working architects/design professionals to support impactful learning, scholarship, and professional work at Ball State University and in the Indiana architecture community. The Andrew Seager Archive of the Built Environment (https://www.bsu.edu/academics/libraries/research/andrew-seager-archive-of-the-built-environment) is a division of the Ball State University Libraries located in the Estopinal College of Architecture and Planning. The Archive provides scholars access to over 130,000 original architectural drawings, landscape plans, blueprints, photographs, and building models documenting the history of Indiana’s built environment.

 

The University Libraries generously advances digital initiatives and innovative projects that advance the visibility, discoverability, and impact of the Seager collections and services, and over 30 open access archival collections from the Seager Archive are available through the Ball State University Digital Media Repository (https://dmr.bsu.edu/).

Position Function:  Engage in acquisition, processing, preservation; digitization, promotion, use, and development of the collections, programs, and services of the Andrew Seager Archive of the Built Environment, a Division of Ball State University Libraries, to expand user access and resource discovery of primary source materials that document the history of Indiana’s built environment; support an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative work environment and service culture to advance the strategic direction of the University Libraries.

 

Minimum Qualifications: MLS/MLIS/MIS degree from an ALA accredited program OR MA in architecture, landscape architecture, historic preservation, urban planning or design. Two or more years of experience in archives, library, or museum; experience with information technology applications in an archives and/or library environment, including imaging technology, electronic databases, and web page design. Effective oral and written communication skills; strong organizational skills; ability to work effectively with donors to build collections; working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office applications.

 

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Additional degree in architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, or historic preservation; course work or similar archives experience or training working with architectural records. Supervisory experience.
