Job Summary:

Since 1985, the mission of Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program (BHCHP) has been to provide or assure access to the highest quality health care for all persons experiencing homelessness in the greater Boston area. We are looking for a dynamic individual to provide thoughtful leadership that encourages an environment of support, excellence and learning across all aspects of our busy AmeriCorps program.

Every year, BHCHP hosts 12-13 AmeriCorps Members to work in every facet of our organization. Our AmeriCorps are high achieving, motivated recent grads who see their service as a chance to gain practical knowledge and experience in medicine and in public health; most of our members move on to medical school, nursing school, or a public health program at the conclusion of their service. In addition, our service members deliver a cost-effective way to increase programming and initiatives for our vulnerable patients – individuals and families experiencing homelessness.  Service members are also an effective recruitment source for future employees and can serve as potent public relations advocates.

In short, the AmeriCorps program is vital to our mission. In this role, you will connect the interests of potential volunteers with the needs of BHCHP to ensure an enriching experience while they provide BHCHP with invaluable service.  We seek someone with a sincere interest in social justice, a passion for civic engagement, a demonstrated history of successful project management, and sustained focus on strategic goals which produce outstanding results. You must possess the ability to motivate teams and employees, manage program delivery, administer evaluation systems to verify program effectiveness, and closely monitor progress toward goals taking immediate remedial action when necessary.


  • Responsible for all facets of AmeriCorps program.
  • Serve as liaison between Massachusetts Service Alliance (MSA) or other funding sources and BHCHP to assure compliance with program requirements/regulations.
  • Maintain documentation and other program monitoring reports to be submitted to MSA.
  • Prepare and manage BHCHP’s AmeriCorps program budget.
  • Provide regular supervision and support to 12-13 full-time AmeriCorps members, who serve as care coordinators and health educators to adults and families experiencing homelessness.
  • Maintain timekeeping system and data tracking tools for accurate completion of program reporting.
  • Participate in Human Resources department activities, including weekly meeting, monthly program orientation, and occasional projects.


  • Strong understanding of, and commitment to, the mission of Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program, and a keen understanding of the importance of service relationships to the BHCHP mission.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Experience in training, or interest and willingness to learn.
  • Past AmeriCorps service experience is a plus.
