Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in Washington State, that provides students with the latest cutting edge skills relevant to today’s workplace. LWTech is searching for an Administrative Assistant. This position provides receptionist support in a busy office with multiple departments. Department serves a diverse population of students and staff. Perform a variety of office support activities in line with established policies and procedures that require regular interpretation. Large volumes of calls, emails, and appointments require ability to multitask competing priorities. Provide administrative support to Student Development department staff. May direct the work of student employees. Work is performed under general and infrequent supervision and reports to the Director of Student Development or designee.


• Provide high level quality customer service; maintain confidentiality tact and discretion; effectively communicate college policies and procedures to students and staff

• Act as receptionist, greet and escort visitors; respond to calls, mail, email, visits, and inquiries; independently answer routine matters or direct to appropriate persons

• Exceptional attendance and punctuality

• Open and close the office area, ensuring doors are locked/unlocked, computer kiosks are turned on, and office is ready for staff and students

• Schedule, maintain and update staff calendar appointments

• Plan and arrange own work sequence; develop office procedures, routines, and filing systems

• Perform complex word processing tasks; create and proofread appropriate written communications; use spreadsheets and databases to develop and maintain records and reports

• Compose office correspondence such as requests for information; develop, evaluate, and revise forms for internal use; develop and maintain proper document layouts, arrangement, and grammatical composition

• Prepare or assist in compiling and preparing reports as required for supervisor review; refer questionable data or narrative to supervisor for clarification

• Collaborate with other departments and divisions, maintaining positive working relationships

• Train student employees on front desk policies and procedures, assigning tasks as appropriate.

Sufficient combination of education and experience to:

• Apply current administrative office procedures to daily tasks

• Communicate in writing and verbally with the general public in a calm, courteous, helpful, and clearly understood manner

• Provide superior customer service to students and employees

• Organize paper and electronic resources in an easy to use format for students and employees

• Manage and prioritize multiple tasks with competing deadlines efficiently

• Maintain confidentiality and use tact and discretion

• Ability to handle regular changes and shifting priorities

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Excel, Word, and Publisher, related software applications, and standard office practices, procedures, and equipment; keyboarding speed of at least 40 wpm

• Demonstrated ability to work successfully with students, staff, and community from diverse backgrounds, including non-native English speakers, and a commitment to a culturally diverse work environment


Compensation & Work Schedule:Initial salary placement is between $3,480-$3,559 per month DOQ; salary placement for current classified employees is per the classified bargained agreement. This position works 40 hours per week. Schedule to be determined by the Director of Student Development.
