Department Summary:

The mission of the Department of Aviation Science is to combine academic studies and flight training in order to prepare graduates for a wide variety of positions within the air transportation industry, including general, airline and military aviation. The Administrative Assistant I will provide administrative support for the Flight Training Center including sending communications, maintaining databases, supporting office operations, and assisting the Chief Instructor in all areas of flight operations. This role will serve as the administrative liaison between the Certified Flight Instructors (CFI) and the Aviation Science Department in the Ricciardi College of Business. This position reports to the Chief Instructor.

TOUR OF DUTY:Monday – Friday, 7:30am – 3:30pm

(Saturday & Sunday as days off)(Subject to Change)*Initial assignment only. Subject to change according to institutional needs.This is an AFSCME unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.

This position is located at the BSU Flight Training Center located at New Bedford Regional Airport in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

Essential Duties:

• Receive, direct, or respond to departmental inquiries, provide information and direction, and assist students with their questions. Maintain positive interactions with a multicultural and diverse group of students: disseminate information, and answer, field questions about the Flight Training Center.

• Assist with monitoring and ensuring FAA Part 141 compliance.

• Assist with Part 141 record keeping.

• Assist with maintaining records of equipment, furniture, and technology request.

• Acts as point of contact for the Flight Training Center to ensure timely communication with the Bridgewater main campus.

• Serve as primary point of contact for facility requirements and coordinate with campus Facilities Management and Information Technology departments to ensure facility meets flight training operational needs.

• Compose reports and correspondence as appropriate.

• Coordinate and schedule classroom usage.

• Assist with planning and execution of BSU outreach initiatives; including invitations for open houses and maintaining a database for invitees and visitors

• Assist with formatting revisions of Training Course Outlines and other manuals.

• Serve as aircraft dispatcher in the absence of the part-time dispatcher.

• Assist with maintaining aircraft maintenance records.

• Other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Instructor

Required Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

• Superior organizational and time-management skills.

• Superior customer service skills.

• Previous experience in aviation-related industry or in an aviation educational environment.

• Experience with Banner finance, student information and payroll systems.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Word.
