SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in Washington State, that provides students with the latest cutting edge skills relevant to today’s workplace. LWTech offers 10 applied bachelor’s degrees, more than 40 associate degrees and 93 professional certificates, in 43 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Part-time Faculty – Parent Education – Lake Washington Toddler Group

Summary of Responsibilities Part-Time instructor for parent education classes in conjunction with cooperative toddler group lab for ages 0-3 years old.
Location:Lake Washington Toddler Group
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Plan and implement the children’s curriculum for the toddler lab – 1-2 classes; days to be determined.
• Assume responsibility for set up/clean up of the toddler lab environment
• Plan and implement parent responsibilities in the toddler lab
• Plan, Prepare and Teach evening and in class parent education sessions
• Attend and act as advisor to Board’s monthly 2+ hour evening meeting year round
• Plan and implement additional activities to fulfill 2 credit requirement per class
• Attend staff development meetings and in-services at the college
• Promote program at community events year round
• Be able to lift 40 pounds
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following: early childhood education, family support or human development, parent education, or related field – with extensive course work in such areas as child development
• 3 years min. teaching experience in early childhood education, working with children
• Basic computer skills
• Excellent verbal, listening and problem-solving skills
• Coursework in Early Childhood Education (or willingness to complete an Introduction to Early Childhood Education class within first year)
• CPR/First Aid Certification (be willing to obtain before first class)
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience and/or education work in adult education (If the selected applicant does not have the necessary experience or training in adult ed. they must be willing to take specific course work at LWTech their first year of employment)
• 3 years recent parent education/cooperative preschool teaching
• Experience working with diverse families
• Prior participation, through teaching or enrollment as a parent, in a parent cooperative preschool affiliated with a community or technical college
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
A portion of the salary is paid by the college and a portion by the Board of Directors for Lake Washington Toddler Group; both are based on experience and education

It should be understood by all applicants that employment by the college does not begin until the Fall Quarter and is contingent upon full enrollment in all classes to be taught. However, Lake Washington Toddler Group may have activities that start prior to the Fall Quarter that would require your involvement.
CompensationPlacement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. The salary for part time faculty contracts shall be based upon the number of credits assigned the faculty member, the type of class taught, and the rates contained in the part time faculty salary schedule currently in effect and labeled Appendix B.Step A ranges from $735.47 – $2,026.41Step B ranges from $774.00 – $2,322.00Step C ranges from $789.87 – $2,369.58Step D ranges from $844.26 – $2,532.78Step E ranges from $865.79 – $2,712.96BenefitsOnce part-time faculty have worked 50% full-time or more for two consecutive quarters(with LWTech or combined with other community/technical colleges), Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability and other insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board, State Retirement Plan and a Deferred Compensation Plan; sick leave accrues at 1 day (Prorated based on % of FTE) effective upon employment.
