Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in Washington State, that provides students with the latest cutting edge skills relevant to today’s workplace. LWTech offers ten applied bachelor’s degrees, more than 40 associate degrees and 93 professional certificates, in 43 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

LWTech serves the Eastside and is located within the city of Kirkland, which is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Washington. Kirkland is home to companies such as GoDaddy, Google, Astronics and EvergreenHealth, and the college is within minutes from Microsoft and Nintendo.


Lake Washington Institute of Technology is seeking qualified part time instructors. All instructor positions require two or more years of work experience; college teaching experience and industry certifications are preferred.

Summary of Responsibilities: Part-Time instructor for parent education classes in conjunction with cooperative toddler group lab for ages 0-3 years old.

Location: Redmond Toddler Group


• Plan and implement the children’s curriculum for the toddler lab

• Assume responsibility for set up/clean up of the toddler lab environment

• Plan and implement parent responsibilites in the toddler lab

• Plan, prepare and teach evening and in class parent education sessions

• Attend and act as advisor to Board’s monthly 2+ hour evening meeting year round

• Plan and implement additional activities to fulfill 2 credit requirement per class

• Promote program at community events year round

• Be able to lift 40 pounds

• Plan and share a children’s activity

• Submit lesson plans and handouts for 1 parent education class

It should be understood by all applicants that employment by the college does not begin until the Fall Quarter and is contingent upon full enrollment in all classes to be taught. However, Redmond Toddler Group may have activities that start prior to the Fall Quarter that would require your involvement.


Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in oe of the following: early childhood education, family support or human development, parent education, or related field – with extensive course work in such areas as child development

• Three years minimum teaching experience required in early childhood education, working with children

• Basic computer skills

• Excellent verbal, listening and problem-solving skills

• Coursework in Early Childhood (or willingness to complete an Introduction to Early Childhood Education class within the first year)

• CPR/First Aid Certification (be willing to obatin before first class)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience and/or education work in adult education (If the selected applicant does not have the necessary experience or training in adult ed. they must be willing to take specific course work at LWTech their first year of employment)

• Three years recent parent education/cooperative preschool teaching

• Experience working with diverse families

• Prior participation, through teaching or enrollment as a parent, in a parent cooperative preschool affiliated with a community or technical college

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

Salary: A portion of the salary is paid by the college and a portion by the Board of Directors for Redmond Toddler Group; both are based on experience and education

Once part-time faculty have worked 50% full-time or more for two consecutive quarters(with LWTech or combined with other community/technical colleges), Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability and other insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board, State Retirement Plan and a Deferred Compensation Plan; sick leave accrues at 1 day (Prorated based on % of FTE) effective upon employment.
