Summary:

Lake Washington Institute of Technology is seeking qualified part time instructors.

The following is the course outline:

• BIOL& 260 Microbology- 5 credits (Total Hours: 70; Theory (Lecture) Hours: 30; Guided Practice (Lab or Clinical) Hours: 40)

Introduces students to the major concepts of the microbiological science. These concepts include basic anatomy, physiology and the differnces between eurkayotic, prokaryotic and viral systems, growth factors and curves, techniques and microbial control, microbial interrelationships and host defenses. This recruitment is to establish an applicant pool for future part-time faculty vacancies. The college hires part-time faculty on a quarter by quarter basis, dependent on enrollment. If you’re selected for an interview for a potential future vacancy, a college representative will contact you.

Essential Functions:

• Plan and develop a variety of instruction objectives and experiences appropriate to the program goals

• Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments

• Develop and teach to the objectives of the approved curriculum

• Develop and teach lessons which foster and support cultural diversity and non-discrimination

• Teach productive and constructive study skills to students

• Develop classroom and lab procedures in conformance with identified policies and procedures

• Maintain appropriate records which indicate student progress and meet college requirements

• Follow disciplinary procedures as prescribed and deal consistently and fairly with all students

• Design learning experiences for the unique characteristics of individual adult students through classes, individual instruction and self-directed learning

• Post the class syllabus and students’ grades via the online course system (currently Canvas)

Qualifications

• Masters degree in Microbiology or a closely related field

• 2 years related work experience

• College teaching experience preferred

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Must have sensitivity and ability to successfully interact with diverse populations

• Due to the diversity of the college population, we encourage applicants who are multilingual

• Previous experience with an online course system (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Sakai, Moodle) preferred

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

Placement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. Once part-time faculty have worked 50% full-time or more for two consecutive quarters (with LWTech or combined with other community/technical colleges), Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability and other insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board, State Retirement Plan and a Deferred Compensation Plan; sick leave accrues at 1 day (Prorated based on % of FTE) effective upon employment.
