Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in Washington State, that provides students with the latest cutting edge skills relevant to today’s workplace. SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lake Washington Institute of Technology is seeking qualified instructors. All instructor positions require two years work experience; college teaching experience and industry certifications are preferred.

This recruitment is to establish an applicant pool for future adjunct faculty vacancies. The college hires adjunct faculty on a quarter by quarter basis, dependent on enrollment. If you’re selected for an interview for a potential future vacancy, a college representative will contact you.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Teach a variety of scheduled college-level and laboratory classes in the Funeral Service Education to a diverse student population in a manner consistent with the program and accreditation standards.

Supervise and evaluate students in theory and laboratory settings

Develop and teach productive and constructive work habits, study skills, and core skills as identified by the college; model the communication, computation, and human relations skills required for employment in the Funeral Service profession

Develop culturally relevant course content, culturally responsive pedagogical techniques, and effective practices for engaging students who are diverse and/or students who are historically underserved.

Promote classroom and laboratory procedures and articulate OSHA Safety standards in accordance with identified local, state, and federal policies and procedures

Follow disciplinary procedures, as prescribed in college policy, and deal consistently and fairly with all students

Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of Funeral Service trends, including Funeral Service competency in areas of responsibility and current clinical competency, and relate specific applications to industry

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree

• Possession of a Degree from an ABFSE accredited institution

• Minimum Two years of work experience as a licensed Funeral Service Provider

• Demonstrated excellence in communication skills

• Current license to practice in Funeral Directing and Embalming in Washington State.

• Knowledge of current Funeral Services practices, laws and regulations.

Compensation & Benefits

Placement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. Once part-time faculty have worked 50% full-time or more for two consecutive quarters(with LWTech or combined with other community/technical colleges), Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability and other insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board, State Retirement Plan and a Deferred Compensation Plan; sick leave accrues at 1 day (Prorated based on % of FTE) effective upon employment.
