Department Summary:

The Office of Equal Opportunity is responsible for the development, delivery, and oversight of policies and procedures related to preventing and providing redress for allegations of discrimination and harassment based on legally protected characteristics. The office provides leadership, coordination, and oversight of the University’s affirmative action, equal opportunity, disability compliance, and Title IX initiatives. Position Summary:

The ADA Specialist/EO Investigator, Staff Associate provides support for the Office of Equal Opportunity and the university’s efforts to provide an equitable, diverse, and inclusive environment in which to work, learn, and live. This position will support the Director/504 Coordinator by reviewing, researching, and helping facilitate reasonable accommodations for employees. They will also provide support for cross-campus university initiatives and policies in collaboration with university divisions and departments to ensure best practices, compliance, and accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA), and other applicable laws and regulations. This position will also serve as a secondary investigator within the OEO and conduct prompt and appropriate investigations of reports of protected-category based harassment and discrimination.

Tour of Duty: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm

(Evening and weekend hours may be required)(Saturday and Sundays as days off)

Position Type: Professional Non-Unit

Essential Duties:

1. Work with campus partners in facilitating and fulfilling campus policies as governed by the ADA.2. Serve as a liaison between the 504 Coordinator and Student Accessibility Services.3. Maintain a conscious and unbiased opinion while reviewing medical documentation in order to evaluate employees for accommodation eligibility; assess disability-related needs and recommend appropriate related accommodations.4. Use a multicultural and inclusive approach to facilitate accommodation for campus employees including faculty and staff related to the ADA through an interactive process.5. Take and maintain notes during all meetings with employees throughout the interactive process in determining reasonable accommodations.6. Write accommodation letters and plans within ADA framework and EO Plan guidelines.7. Establish and maintain confidential electronic and hardcopy reasonable accommodation files, which includes maintaining requests in the office’s case management database.8. Conduct training with faculty, staff, and students, about disability awareness, the federal laws, and relevant case law that govern disability in higher education.9. Maintain a tracking log of all employee reasonable accommodation requests.10. Serve as the point of contact for Title IX accommodations for students with disabilities.11. Assist with the maintenance of records keeping and data management in the University Banner and Maxient systems for individuals granted accommodations.12. Prepare requested reports and compile data to better inform compliance with the ADA and inform future accessibility efforts.13. Provide students and employees with information on disability services, policies, and procedures. Answer telephone and email inquiries, as needed, and direct calls to appropriate personnel.14. Conduct fair, prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations of complaints of discrimination and harassment based on legally protected categories. This includes interviewing parties and witnesses; collection, documentation and review of evidence; and following other required investigative procedures based upon established policies.15. Facilitate informal resolutions to complaints in a neutral, unbiased, and inclusive manner.16. Stay abreast of applicate federal and state laws, changes of relevant case law, and institutional policy related to compliance administration, and current trends in interpreting Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, the ADA, the ADAAA, and Section 504.17. Conduct research for Office of Equal Opportunity project planning and management.18. Serve on campus committees where appropriate and relevant.19. Participate in University initiatives and programming around non-discrimination, racial justice, and violence prevention.

20. Additional office/field support as needed.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree

• Knowledge of, or ability to understand, apply, and explain laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse student body, faculty, staff, advisors, and outside constituents.

• Passion for and commitment to social justice, racial justice, civic engagement, and violence prevention.

• Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and other various backgrounds.

• Resourcefulness and ability to anticipate administrative and communication issues in advance and solve them as they arise.

• The ability to hear, discuss, and review sensitive material.

• Ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion in handling confidential information and maintain privacy.

• Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree.

• Experience in Higher Education.

• Certificate and/or Graduate level coursework in Disability Studies and/or Disability Policy.
