SUMMARY

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Accounting Manager will be responsible for all areas that relate to financial reporting, and develop and maintain accounting procedures, practices, and controls to ensure timely and accurate financial statements.

The ideal candidate will combine accounting experience in a food manufacturing environment with strong analytical and interpersonal skills.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and yearly closing activities including preparing various working papers, journal entries, and fixed assets schedule and records
  • Prepare and analyze consolidated financial statements (US subsidiary)
  • Ensure financial statement accuracy through variance/trend analysis and reconciliations
  • Prepare and submit monthly/quarterly/annual reporting package to stakeholders including parent company
  • Prepare and maintain government and regulatory filings
  • Liaise with external auditors and internal staff to coordinate and compile audit requests and deliverables for a timely completion of year end audit
  • Support implementation of new processes and controls and adhere to current policies and procedures
  • Research accounting issues for compliance and resolve account discrepancies/non-compliance
  • Responsible for cash flow management including bank reconciliations and cash flow projections
  • Maintain general ledger accounts as the main ERP administrator i.e., setting up new stock codes/GL codes/product classes, etc. as well as update any GL integrations as required
  • Assist in budget process as required
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting transactions and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles
  • Assist in overseeing the accounting/payroll department and provide accounting guidance to departmental staff as needed
  • Provide backup coverage for the finance and payroll teams as required
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops
  • Assist the Corporate Controller with other special projects

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 3-5 years of senior level accounting experience including IFRS reporting
  • 1+ years of supervisory experience, including hands on experience managing a team through a period of change
  • Possess a professional accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA, CPA)
  • 1-2 years relevant experience in consumer products manufacturer/distributor would be an asset
  • Experience working with complex spreadsheets and accounting systems

 

RELATED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing financial information
  • Strong analytical and accounting skills with an inquisitive personality to assess the current state and problem solve
  • Strong communication skills to develop relationships to work cohesively as a group.  Ability to explain complex concepts in an easy-to-understand manner for both senior managers and non-financial managers.
  • A self-starter and results driven individual with the ability to work in a dynamic, high-growth environment
  • Strong ability to deal tactfully and efficiently to all enquiries
  • Solid experience with ERP systems, preferably with Syspro
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft applications including Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.
