Department Summary:

Bridgewater State University’s Department of Fiscal Affairs provides stakeholders and the campus community with timely, relevant, and accurate fiscal reporting in accordance with federal, state, and other laws and regulations. The Fiscal Affairs Department oversees the areas of general accounting, treasury, grant reporting, and fiscal functions of the University and the University’s component units.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Assistant Comptroller, the Accountant III is responsible for daily support of the reconciliations of cash receipts, disbursement cycle entries, and fiscal-related activities of both the University and University’s Component Units. This position will aid in maintaining the University’s official accounting records to ensure they are properly maintained in accordance with external laws and reporting requirements, internal policies, and generally accepted accounting principles and to ensure the accuracy of the University and Component Unit’s financial records.

Supervision Received: The Accountant III works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Comptroller, Fiscal Affairs. The position also provides direct support to the Comptroller, Assistant Comptroller – Foundation / Alumni, as well as the Director of Student Accounts, as necessary.

This is an AFSCME unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.

Tour of Duty: TBD am to pm, Monday through Friday*

(Saturdays and Sundays as days off)

Essential Duties:

1. Responsible for daily reconciliation of the University bank accounts. Monitor high volume of cash, checks, and credit card deposits and ensure all bank deposits reconcile to our Ellucian Banner accounting system. Track other bank entries such as wires and other receipts/disbursements. This includes running reports, maintaining extensive spreadsheets in balance, reviewing files, and communicating with other members of Fiscal Affairs and Student Accounts.

2. Reconcile all bank statements including the component units.

3. Post stop payments and voids of checks in the bank and Banner.

4. Run disbursement cycles including checks, direct deposits, wires, and payments on the Commonwealth’s MMARS system (Massachusetts Management Accounting and Reporting System).

5. Prepare BARS (Billing and Accounts Receivables System) and 901 monthly reporting to the Commonwealth and enter documents into MMARS.

6. Monitor unclaimed property by sending notification letters to students and/or vendors, as well as preparing for submission to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, both monthly and annually, and to other states as needed.

7. Prepare/Enter journal entries and feeds into Banner for approval and posting.

8. Perform other duties as requested, such as special projects, testing, and gathering information for audits.

Required Qualifications:

1. Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting or auditing, of which at least (B) one year must have been in a supervisory, administrative or managerial capacity, or © any equivalent combination of the required experience or © any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions as listed in the MA State Job Specifications.2. Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting including terminology.3. Strong attention to detail.4. Ability to maintain accurate records.5. Ability to read and interpret documents such as financial reports, accounts, and ledgers.6 Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of accounting data, draw conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations.7. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.8. Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral expression.

9. Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.

10. Ability to prepare general and financial reports.11. Ability to exercise sound judgment.

12. Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information.13. Ability to deal tactfully with others.13. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.14. Ability to work independently, as well as in a team setting.

• Strong reconciliation experience

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

• Higher Education Experience

Salary Range: $1999.39 bi-weekly (Grade 18, Step 1)
