Salary Range: $19.61 – $21.02 per hour

Essential Functions and Objectives:

 

Supports operations through practical application of knowledge, use of proven techniques, and adherence to procedures. Primary focus on execution of assigned tasks in a specific area of responsibility, with a technical emphasis; such as; equipment, machinery, or scientific/chemical.  

 

Performs athletic field and facilities maintenance for District athletic facilities.

 

Performs hands-on tasks applying proven industry standards and techniques, while adherence to policies, procedures, or guidelines in the area of responsibility. Installs, tests, analyzes, troubleshoots, repairs, maintains, related equipment in order to support short-term operations and minimize downtime. 

Performs data entry and verification, keeps accurate files/records, creates detailed reports, using various existing systems for accurate, timely, and compliant records.

Receives, understands, and disseminates information in subject matter to appropriate stakeholders. Diagnoses problems and aids in resolving technical issues and escalates appropriately to ensure a positive experience.

Contributes to identifying process inefficiencies and proposes solutions, identifies opportunities through external research on trends in resources, programs, and services and internal research with stakeholders, and supports improvement efforts in order to support long-term operations and minimize downtime. 

 

L1 (Apprentice) 

 

Under the direction L2 or L3 technicians: Assists with and or performs all functions of the L2 (Journeyman) and L3 (Master or Multi-Skilled) level position.

Performs sports field maintenance.

Performs grounds maintenance around sports facilities and related fences and signs.

Operates grounds maintenance equipment and performs minor operator equipment maintenance.

Measures and marks sports fields and assists in setting up related sports event equipment.

Performs minor facility maintenance and repair.

Assists with the construction of athletic fields and facilities according to industry standards.

Performs custodial-type duties for district sites, All City Sports Complex and Rockies baseball fields.

Communicates and coordinates with staff at work site and with other shop staff.

Prepares and cleans up job site, taking into consideration safety concerns of self and other, and disposes of waste and flammable materials.

Reviews work orders, prioritizes, and determines supplies for repair and purchases supplies using District purchase order system.

Performs work and cross trains in at least one other trade as an apprentice.

Assists with snow removal efforts on a 24 hour on-call basis.

Responds to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Trains and mentors staff.

Bids on work requested by schools, and prepares quotes.

Inspects work of independent contractors, identifies deficiencies, and communicates with project managers about correcting deficiencies according to code (e.g., city, state) and DPS specifications.

Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

 

Two (2) to ten (10) years experience and training; minimum as follows: L1: Two (2) years related experience, L2: Four (4) years experience, L3: Ten (10) years journeyman experience, including one (1) year internal experience, District specific training or equivalent required for all levels. Formal training and or five years experience in landscape maintenance of commercial or public properties and/or Formal training and or five years experience in tree and woody plant maintenance. Formal training and or experience in construction and maintenance of landscape structures. Formal training and or experience in the control of landscape pests (insects, diseases and weeds). Experience in the use of survey equipment to establish grades and layout and install site landscaping. Experience in the requirements of establishing and maintaining safe landscape areas.

Must have and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License and meet District insurability standards. Must have the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Knowledge of custodial procedures that relate to maintenance of both indoor and outdoor athletic facilities.

Knowledge of field setup and requirements for the following sports: football, field hockey, softball, lacrosse, baseball, basketball, soccer and track and field.

Knowledge of turf management practices required to maintain sports fields in optimal playing condition.

Knowledge of operation and repair of sprinkler irrigation systems to include operation and setup of all types of irrigation controllers.

Ability to work Tuesday through Saturday schedule, and for prolonged periods, in all types of weather conditions.

Ability to coordinate with other shop staff to complete projects.

Ability to work effectively with staff at all levels, in all departments.

Ability to complete work according to specifications, with attention to detail. 

Ability to plan and organize work, at times with interruptions.

Ability to problem solve and repair/construct items according to specifications.

Ability to work independently, make decisions and complete assignments.

Ability to work overtime hours as necessary and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.

Ability to interpret and read blueprints and drawings.

Ability to communicate in English, orally and in writing.

 

Education Requirements:

 

High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
