Salary Range: $21.28 – $25.38 per hour

Essential Functions and Objectives:

Serves as the primary radio and telephone communications link between Security Department Personnel and those who are in need of or request assistance from the Denver Public Schools Department of Safety. Monitors closed circuit cameras and intrusion and other electronic / technological systems. High level of confidentiality is required.

– Receive emergency and non-emergency information regarding requests for assistance from schools or other DPS locations and transmits necessary information to Department of Safety officers both armed and unarmed. Information is transmitted by way of a multiple channel two- way radio system interoperable with the City radio system, by telephone, computer messaging or by any other means.

– Perform emergency command center communications duties in the event of major incidents, accidents or other emergencies as needed that occur in the District or the City.

– Maintain a constant awareness of the location, welfare and activities of Department of Safety personnel throughout the District as necessary to provide for the safety and security of DPS students, staff, citizens and physical assets.

– Efficiently use District emergency response and notification protocols. Transfer calls and/or relay information received from any source to appropriate persons or agencies, including the police, fire, ambulance, towing services and/or other departments of the School District.

– Accurately prepare, maintain and distribute all required logs, reports and other records and documentation as required or directed.

– Create written documentation on reported incidents as requested.

– Must learn to operate all electronic / technological systems and software programs utilized now or in the future in the center, utilizing Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems, GUI based access and security systems closed circuit cameras, and multi-line phone systems.

– Perform as necessary all of the above functions for other departments (e.g. dispatching, transportation on a limited basis) and any other duties as assigned.

– Actively monitors and responds to intrusion and facility alarms.

– High ability to multi-task using the above programs and procedures.

– Establish and maintain a good working relationship with members and departments of Denver Public Schools, Denver Police, and neighboring school districts along with other dispatchers and continuously strive for exceptional service.

Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

– Experience with dispatch systems for a law enforcement or multitask security operation preferred.

– Familiarity with Denver Public Schools, and its facilities preferred, along with jurisdictional knowledge of the City and County of Denver.

– Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), GUI based systems, CAD operating systems, and multi-line phone systems.

– Type at least 35 WPM.

– Good attendance record.

– Experience in a dynamic and fast-paced environment is preferred.

– Bilingual skills in Spanish preferred.

– The ability to make critical decisions independently and confidently.

– The ability to work any shift in a dynamic 24 hour a day 7 days a week environment to include weekends and holidays.

– Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters and information regarding the district, students and citizens.

– Maintain CCIC Certification. Dispatch Quality Control Department Standards must be met.

Education Requirements:

– High School Diploma or GED.
