Corporate Services offers a challenging and stimulating variety of work in delivery and support teams at the heart of DE&S. The function utilises the expertise of eight specialisms that collectively enable the operational day-to-day running of the business to ensure that DE&S/SDA delivers its objectives and maintains compliance with the requirements of being part of a Department of State. We cover: Business Support; Communications, Media & Marketing; Infrastructure & Estate Management; Policy Profession; Sales & Disposals; Occupational Health, Safety & Environment; Quality Management; and Security.

Do you have a strong interest in defence and the wider political and industrial landscape within which it operates?

We currently have dynamic and fast-paced positions working as part of the Policy Profession specialism within the Corporate Services Group Function.

As a member of the Policy Profession specialism, you will be responsible for providing support to senior officials, including the DE&S leadership team and Ministers, on Parliamentary matters and high profile business issues affecting DE&S. Positions are held either within the central teams or out in the Delivery Teams dealing with similar aspects of work but facing Mod HQ for war-fighting capabilities.

The positions offer you the chance to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders across DE&S and the wider MOD, building and maintaining a strong network. You will be required to analyse information in order to formulate responses and provide advice and recommendations based on evidence, demonstrating your ability to draft documents concisely, accurately and quickly in order to meet deadlines. You will thrive performing under pressure, whilst dealing with multiple competing issues and prioritising work to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

In your role as a Policy Profession specialist, key responsibilities and duties will typically include the following but not limited to:

• Parliamentary business – including the handling of Parliamentary Questions, Ministerial and public correspondence.
• Briefing for Parliamentary Committees and debates.
• Briefing and the provision of advice and support to Ministers on key business issues.
• Freedom of Information requests.
• Assisting with the handing of media enquiries, engage with and support teams to commission, staff and submit briefs to Director, Director General and Chief Executive Officer.
• Manage the delivery of briefs for senior officials and above where the material spans multiple delivery teams.

The majority of work is provided as written material, however there may sometimes be a requirement for verbal briefs on specific issues.

What you will be assessed against

To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

• Previous experience of Parliamentary and/or Ministerial work or at minimum, working with individuals of seniority
• Able to deliver a range of written material with suitable content to meet absolute deadlines
• The ability to analyse and assimilate information, formulate a course of action and manage to a conclusion
• Able to determine priorities and deliver results at pace
• Excellent communicator and engagement with stakeholders and management

It would benefit your application should be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:

• Previous experience of working in Defence
• Previous Policy Secretariat experience
