Full-Time Deputy Director – Health of Tax Administration Systems

Job Description

What will you do?  

This an exciting opportunity to help deliver a tax system that truly is designed around the needs of our customers.    

You’ll develop and embed the evidence base that underpins all our major strategic decisions and defines what a healthy tax administration system is, into the way HMRC operates.  

With a proven track record in strategy development in either the public or private sector, you’ll understand how to turn strategy in to delivery.  

You’ll love tax and the tax system and will be keen to use your knowledge in support of making our tax system resilient and adaptable.  

  

How will you add value to the role? 

  • Collaborative approach to building effective internal and external relationships 
  • Excellent communication skills, able to engage confidently in a wide range of situations 
  • A proven ability to ‘think outside of the box’ to deliver strategic shifts in thinking  
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to shape a coherent research programme  
  • Ability to provide structure and direction and to support teams through ambiguity 
  • Knowledge of tax, the different types of tax and their relative strengths and weaknesses 
  • Experience of developing and implementing performance metrics 
  • Knowledge of tax administration is desirable but is not essential 

  

What will you be part of? 

As part of Strategies Directorate, you will play an active role in representing the Directorate’s identity and ways of working through corporate leadership as well as influencing across other parts of HMRC.  

The Directorate is relatively small (you’ll manage a team of 5) so teamworking and collaboration really matters. A desire to be part of a team and using knowledge and information to support the way the Directorate performs is important.
