Job Description

Summary:

Physics Today, the flagship magazine of the American Institute of Physics, is seeking a Books Editor who will run the Books and Media department in print and online.

Since its launch in 1948, Physics Today has covered physics and its related sciences for its large and diverse readership of physical scientists. The Book Editor’s main responsibilities will be threefold: to acquire and edit book reviews for each monthly issue, to edit feature articles for the magazine, and to write, acquire, and edit reviews and other material for the magazine’s website. The editor will also have opportunities to contribute in other ways to the magazine, its website, and its social media outlets.

*This role is currently 100% remote and will eventually switch back to our office environment as the Institute continues to respond to the coronavirus, government mandates and considers the best action to keep the AIP staff safe.

Qualifications

Advanced degree or equivalent experience in the physical sciences or a related field; excellent command of English, both oral and written; demonstrable talent for writing and explaining physical science to a wide audience of scientists and science enthusiasts; ability to meet deadlines and organize the book review pipeline; ability to work well with others, both inside and outside the magazine.
