Full-Time Educational Planner

Job Description

Clark College is currently accepting applications for a full-time exempt, Educational Planner in the Advising Services department. Reporting to the Associate Director of Advising Services, Educational Planners are integral members of the culturally responsive and student-centered Advising Services team. The ideal candidate will be committed to Clark College’s Social Equity Plan that states “Clark College recognizes, understands, confronts and challenges the institutional systems of power, privilege, and inequity so that all members of the Clark College community can support student learning”. Advising Services is open Monday to Thursday from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm, Friday from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm; this position may require some evening and/or weekend hours.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Demonstrate knowledge of Clark College operations and ability to multi-task, show initiative, creativity, and teamwork.
• Provide accurate and timely advising to students so that they may develop education plans, enroll in appropriate classes, understand college policies and procedures, utilize online services, and be able to access and use college support services.
• Assist students in the development of effective problem-solving skills, self-advocacy, decision-making, and personal responsibility to support students’ ability to persist in goal attainment.
• Provide unofficial credential evaluations from other colleges and universities for academic degree placement and planning.
• Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically underserved populations) and create an educational environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
• Collaborate with institutional partners (e.g., Student Affairs, Financial Aid, Career Services, Instructional Units) in supporting academic, professional, and personal goals of students.
• Create a safe, bias-free working environment, which engenders respect for differences.
• Provide leadership in accordance with the mission, Core themes, objectives and values established by the college.
• Assist in development of advisor resources (e.g., Training, Website, Handbooks, Forms) and make recommendations on academic policies and procedures.
• Participate in advisory, college, and community meetings as requested as well as department and college activities, and committees as appropriate.
• Support the Advising Services team as appropriate; this may include curriculum development, coordination of advising efforts/logistics, and assisting Credential Evaluations and/or Running Start.
• Participate and assist in coordinating advising operations (e.g., New Student Orientation, Major Declaration, Transfer Fairs, Commencement, advising related workshops, presentations and activities for current and prospective students.)
• Review, plan, and develop advising experiences and activities that foster student engagement, growth, and learning with regards to academic life.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree with three (3) years of combined related experience in academic advising, academic coaching or related experience in higher education OR Master’s degree and one (1) year of combined related experience in academic advising, academic coaching or related experience in higher education; year-for-year combined related experience equivalent to educational levels will be considered.
• Commitment to Diversity: Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
• Technology Skills: Strong computer skills and demonstrated ability to utilize technology (learning management systems; Microsoft Office Suite; relational databases such as Banner, Datatel, PeopleSoft, etc.).
• Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, including active listening skills.
• Problem solving: Superior critical thinking and analytical skills. Self-directed initiative to create solutions to identifiable and perceived problems.
• Adaptability: Ability to respond to changing needs, requirements, and information.
• Customer Service: Must provide excellent customer service and function well in a busy, sometimes stressful environment. Positive attitude in the face of adversity is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Three years of advising experience showing increased responsibility, preferably in a community college system.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team and across organizational lines.
• Experience with serving a high volume of students in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities through to completion.

Salary Statement: $55,119 annually. Benefits include vacation/sick leave; medical, dental, life and long-term disability insurance; retirement; and tuition waiver.
