Essential Functions and Objectives:

Administers and manages activities within a specific area of a responsibility. Serves as the subject matter expert and applies gained knowledge to execute, maintain and improve systems, programs, or processes.

The Specialist, Policy Communications for Equity and Engagement develops communication and marketing plans that promote the mission and key priorities of the Equity and Engagement division to internal and external audiences. This role will increase awareness of and participation in Equity and Engagement initiatives and programs. This role also collaborates with the Communications department to ensure integration with district communication strategies and branding standards.

– Provides various support and conducts activities related to logistics, reporting, training, communications, and processes. Participates in the planning and implementation of new initiatives.

– Assesses and troubleshoots escalated problems and applies expert understanding to resolve complex challenges of stakeholders; focuses on root cause identification in order to achieve systemic and sustainable improvement. Approves and documents exceptions for compliance record keeping and reporting.

– Ensures appropriate key stakeholder involvement in planning, goal-setting, and implementation to achieve buy-in of work products. Ensures purposeful, positive and professional interactions and relationships with all stakeholders; enables consistent application of work products across the district.

– Identifies opportunities for improvement, prioritizes, and recommends solutions to management. Implements approved enhancements to ensure consistency across the district. identifies opportunities to reduce costs; analyzes available data, trends, and feedback, and ensures compliance with expectations for optimal operation and goal achievement.

– Collaborate to develop communication plans that foster broad engagement, clarifies strategic investments, explains opportunities for participation and highlights impact of programs and priorities.

– Develop and maintain a portfolio of promotional and program materials by writing copy, formatting, editing and proofreading a variety of communications including newsletters, power point, flyers and other content that will increase participation.

– Creating, improving and maintaining web content on division webpages to increase awareness about programs and initiatives. Monitor web traffic and metrics to identify best practices of website use for programs.

– Ensure that DPS brand and culture is consistently and appropriately incorporated throughout all communication and marketing platforms.

– Train and consult with departments on communications best-practices and protocols.

Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

– 3+ of experience in Communications, Marketing or Media Relations preferably with experience in education or a public agency.

– Project Management Professional and/or Change Management certification preferred.

– Knowledge with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Outlook.

– Effective time management and organizational skills.

– Effective communication skills.

– Strong attention to detail.

– Effectively handle multiple demands and competing deadlines.

– The ability to take responsibility for one’s own performance.

– Work collaboratively with others on a team.

– Aptitude for variety and changing expectations and fast-paced environment.

– Proficiency with design software (Adobe Suite), Google Drive and Web publishing tools (WordPress) is preferred.

– Excellent writing skills as confirmed through writing samples and references is preferred.

– Flexibility with work hours in order to meet the schedule-related needs of stakeholder meetings. This could include some early mornings, evenings and occasionally weekends is preferred.

Education Requirements:

– Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or related field.
