Position description: 

Currently Charles Armstrong School is looking for a Lower School Teacher with extraordinary vision: to inspire, guide and teach students with Dyslexia and related learning differences so that they can meet their full academic and emotional potential. Armstrong has a co-teaching model which includes: team teaching, one lead/one support, parallel teaching and alternative teaching. 

With this model, our homeroom co-teachers work closely to plan, develop and deliver differentiated instruction to students. 

The teacher will work in conjunction with a credentialed teacher, in a co-teaching model, to create an educational setting where students have the opportunity to fulfill their cognitive and social/emotional potential. Candidates will possess a knowledge base and passion for teaching students with Dyslexia and related learning differences. The teacher will be responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will capitalize on student strengths and result in students achieving academic success in accordance with Charles Armstrong methodology and mission. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Using direct instruction, the teacher will implement differentiated instructional activities in both small and whole group settings that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences. 
  • Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and learning needs. 
  • Use classroom management systems that are effective with students with learning differences.
  • Work in a collaborative professional learning environment. 
  • Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process. 
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, teaching partner and other professionals on a regular basis. 
  • Model professional and ethical standards when working with students, parents, peers, and community. 

Education, Certifications, and Work Related Experience: 

Required 

  • Bachelor’s Degree 

Preferred: 

  • Valid teaching credential (Special Education certification or Master’s Degree is a plus) Three to five years of classroom teaching experience 
  • Knowledge of multi-sensory teaching methodologies 
  • Training in a structured reading and literacy program such as Wilson, Slingerland, Orton Gillingham, or Lindamood Bell.
