Job Description Summary
The Student Equity and Inclusion team provides support, advocacy, and care to students throughout their Bentley experience as they explore their identities. We work together daily with students to deepen their connections with one another by challenging each of us to value the complexity and individuality that every person brings to campus. We aim to equip all students with the knowledge, awareness and skills needed to be successful in an increasingly diverse campus and world.

In particular, we support gender equity, students of color, faith based students, international students, and LGBTQ+ identified students through outreach, resources and advising. Our efforts are inclusive of the entire Bentley community through educational initiatives and the creation of spaces for engagement.

The person in this position will collaborate with the Multicultural Center, the Center for International Students and Scholars, the Gender and Sexuality Student Programs Office, and the Spiritual Life Center, to carry out initiatives aimed at these targeted populations, as well as facilitate implementation of inter-departmental initiatives that impact the broader SEI team.

In addition to assisting with broader SEI initiatives and programming, the Student Equity and Inclusion Coordinator will focus especially on helping to ensure student success through interventions, outreach, and programming efforts focused on increasing retention and success rates. The coordinator will also attend to the needs of First Generation students through intentional inclusion in the work we do together. This position reports to the Associate Dean of Student Equity and Inclusion.

Essential Duties:

  • Coordinate and facilitate various program initiatives and interventions, specifically for the offices incorporated in the area of Student Equity and Inclusion.
  • Guide students through identify formation work critical to their success at Bentley, through educating and encouraging students to develop their own worldview as it relates to others in our community.
  • Assess students’ needs and provide support and referral to resources on and off campus best suited to meet those needs.
  • Provide outreach to identified student populations to ensure students have knowledge of, and access to, the services they need to optimize their student success.
  • Review data and identify trends in student retention at Bentley as a basis for planning and administering relevant programming.
  • Assist students with setting goals and identifying, planning for, and overcoming potential obstacles and defining steps in education and career planning; build rapport and trust with students to support successful goal completion; monitor student progress toward identified goals
  • Enable student success through direct mentorship of students as well as coordination of peer mentorship programs.
  • Participate in cross-divisional committees and work groups, as well as work independently, in order to implement student retention interventions.
  • Act as liaison to external stakeholders on a range of projects in order to advance the goals of the division.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Student Equity and Inclusion.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree; Masters preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years work experience in programs with emphasis on student retention or related field working with students from identified populations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Proven collaboration skills, and ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Student service experience, prioritization abilities, and problem solving techniques.
  • Some evening and weekend work required.
  • Student success-oriented programming skills.
  • Familiarity with Student Identity Development Theory.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field.
  • Knowledge of higher education student success best practices.
  • Experience with data-informed decision-making and practice.
  • Demonstrated expertise effectively working cross culturally to meet programmatic goals.
