Coalition of Graduate Employees Operations Support

Are you interested in supporting a community advocating for collective issues? The Coalition of Graduate Employees (American Federation of Teachers, Local 6069) is a labor union representing graduate teaching and research assistants at Oregon State University with just this mission! We are hiring a permanent part-time operations support position at 0.5 Full Time Equivalency (i.e., 20 hours a week) to support the union in its day-to-day operations. Earliest review of applications will begin June 8th, 2021. The anticipated start date will be around September 1st, 2021.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Bookkeeping, including payroll, tax payments, and assistance with audit and budget.
Record organization and maintenance.
Assist Organizer with union member and leadership recruitment and material development.
Communication with OSU graduate employees and OSU administration.
Office management and other duties as needed.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Organizational and/or personal budgeting experience.
Comfortable with computers, software (like word processor and spreadsheets), and minor troubleshooting.
Communication with a diversity of people and organizations through multiple methods.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Union awareness and commitment to labor causes.
Familiarity with institutions of higher education.
Record keeping (electronic and hard copy).
Familiarity with Quickbooks or similar software.

COMPETENCY QUALIFICATIONS: Ideal candidates will demonstrate the following competencies.
Initiative and self-motivation.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Commitment to social justice.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / JOB ENVIRONMENT:
The position requires manual dexterity, auditory and visual skills, and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
The majority of the work is in the CGE office, with occasional travel around campus and Corvallis required.

POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
This a half-time, permanent position covered under a collective bargaining agreement. Compensation is salaried depending on experience with a base salary of $30,500. Benefits include health insurance and paid vacation, holidays, and other leave.
The normal workweek is Monday-Friday, and the normal workday is four hours worked between 8 AM and 9 PM. Specific work hours within that range are flexible, based on the needs of CGE and its employees. Occasional evening or weekend work is required.
