Job Description

Are you passionate about teaching and can you create a welcoming learning environment? Do you have Billing, Coding, and Health Information Management experience, and get excited about sharing it with others?

 

Clark College is currently accepting applications for a full-time temporary Health Information Management instructor. Duties include teaching in the Allied Health department and Health Information Management program. We have had an established Medical Billing and Coding program for many years. Now we have designed a new pathway for Health Information Management careers that encompasses the Medical Billing and Coding skills. We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable team player to join our department. This full-time, temporary position is for the 2021-2022 academic year and is set to begin on September 10, 2021.

 

Teaching duties may include classes in the Health Information Management Associate of Technology field and Medical Billing and Coding Certificate of Proficiency (CP). Department and college service work is expected with the position as assigned by the program director and division or college to support the institutional mission and goals, foremost being student success and retention.

Faculty Responsibilities:

  • Instruct all classes as an expert in the discipline using active learning approaches and diverse assessment practices that both engage and facilitate student learning.
  • Strive to enhance teaching and learning techniques with inclusivity at the center.
  • Instruct all classes utilizing technology (e.g. learning management systems, web-based simulations or other) as part of the course design (web-enhanced, hybrid, or online) to facilitate student learning and success. Online Learning professional development courses are required.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, local industry, advisory committees, and other educational partners to create unique and sustainable learning opportunities at Clark College.
  • Advise and assist students in their educational and career development.
  • Build relationships with students through advising, teaching, and mentoring from recruitment through completion.
  • Participate in decision-making processes by taking part in Department and College committees.
  • Pursue professional development that strives to enhance teaching and learning in the Department and College.
  • Work to enhance and support all forms of diversity on college campus.
  • Assist in the organization, administration, continuous program review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program and third-party accreditations.
  • Obtain and maintain Professional-Technical Certification requirements: RHIT or RHIA.
  • Participate in program, curriculum development, and outcomes and assessment activities.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, businesses, advisory committees, and other educational partners to create unique learning opportunities at Clark College.

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management or related field
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or ability to obtain credential prior to start date.
  • Experience teaching using active learning strategies, or willingness to learn to teach using active learning strategies.

 

 

Salary Statement

Starting salary is $63,786 (non-negotiable). Faculty may be eligible to advance every other year; current top step is $89,850. Salary is for a 173-day contract; additional compensation is available for summer and moonlight teaching, and doctoral and vocational stipends.
